Who is behind Maium and how did the idea of Maium come about?
Maium is founded by two friends, both born and raised in Amsterdam. They came across the problem of getting their clothes wet from the rain every time they cycled from business meeting to business meeting in the city.
Designer Anita: “That’s why we came up with Maium, a raincoat that can easily be transformed into a poncho using the side zippers. It’s a simple and stylish solution to keep you looking good no matter the weather.”
Where is Maium produced?
Maium rainwear is being produced in China at a supplier close to Beijing who is specialized in recycled materials.
What materials are used for Maium rainwear and where are the materials sourced?
Maium rainwear is made of 60% recycled polyester and 40% PU (polyurethane) coating. Alle materials are sourced in China.
Why did Maium choose to use only recycled materials?
The fashion industry is one of the most polluting industries on earth. That’s why it’s important for fashion brands to make conscious decisions and work towards a more sustainable way of working. There is so much plastic in de world already. Why not reuse it for stylish, functional rainwear that you can use for years and years to come?
Does this mean Maium rainwear is completely vegan and cruelty free?
Yes! In producing Maium rainwear no animals are hurt, nor any animal-based materials are used.
How are the good working conditions of the factory workers ensured?
The supplier in China is in the possession of the Oeko-Tex Class I and II certificates and the BSCI certificate. These certificates ensure us of fair, safe and healthy working conditions for the factory workers. On top of that Maium has a fair trade agreement with the supplier. This means half of the order is payed when putting in the order, the other half on delivery.
To strengthen the relationship Maium visits the factory at least once a year to learn more about how and where the coats are produced, to discuss new designs and to work on an even better collaboration.
